Peru

Filled with enthusiasm by the words of St. Paul and thrilled by the prospect of this special Year, we are striving to foster greater knowledge of the Apostle through a CD entitled Palabras sagradas de Pablo Apostol. We prepared an outline based on 16 excerpts from the Letters of Paul that suggests different ways to imitate the Apostle in families, parish groups, youth groups, religious communities, etc. This has fostered a wide dissemination of the CD (700 copies in two months!). We also carried out a diffusion “marathon” that opened with dissemination of the book, Les doy una Buena Noticia. El Evangelio para cada dia (13,000 copies distributed in 3 months).

Different initiatives have been prepared on the level of the Pauline Family to celebrate the Year dedicated to St. Paul:

29 June 2008 – Celebration of the opening of the Pauline Year in St. Gregory Parish (Mangomarca), Lima
May-November 2008 – Vocation encounters guided by the different Institutes of the Pauline Family. A Lectio Divina on the Letters of St. Paul will be held on the third Sunday of every month.
February 2009 – Vocation meeting for young people on St. Paul.

In preparation on the apostolic level, in co-edition with the Society of St. Paul:

– a special edition of the New Testament of the Latin American Bible
– the book, A Novena to St. Paul, by Fr. Fernando Teseyra
– the book, Paul: Apostle without Borders, by Fr. Felipe Del Valle

Lima – Praying with St. Paul
On Jan. 23,  in our Pauline book center at Lima, we sponsored an encounter with a large group of young people. The theme: Young People Pray with St. Paul. For this event we re-opened our hall named  “Saint Paul Auditorium” and made it once again a place for meetings and vocational animation, book forums, or other cultural events. The the hall can seat about 60 persons.

Paul, Apostle, Theologian and Shepherd was the title of the videoclip used. It was prepared by Sr. Gisele Galazara, fsp, and made a strong impression on the young people, helping them to know the great Apostle of the Gentiles: his conversion, his vocation, and his mission.

Two famous vocalists – Daniel Armas of Perù e José Luis Melgar of Bolivia – sang to welcome the many young people who came to the program to pray with St. Paul.

In the days following the program, those who paricipated brought back to their own parishes and circle of friends the experience of that evening, and in one parish they offered a progrm on Youth Leadership in the style of St. Paul.

The prayer encounter with these young people stirred up much enthusiasm and also produced many new contacts.
The Daughters of  Saint Paul were, in fact, invited to do interviews for a radio-television station called Radio Maria, Radio Santa Rosa e Telejuan 19.

Lima –  Renewing God’s Gift with St. Paul
To solemnize the closing of the Pauline Year, the FSPs of Lima held a formation course from 22-26 June in the St. Vincent De Paul Auditorium in the Surquillo quarter of the city. Entitled, St. Paul: Disciple and Missionary, the course was promoted by the Peruvian Episcopal Conference, the FSP Publishing Department and the International Catholic Bible Society.

It was guided by Fr. Jacinto Nunez Regodon, a biblical scholar from the University of Salamanca, Spain, and featured a number of Peruvian bishops as guest speakers.

The 450 priests, religious and laity who participated in the event were all very enthusiastic about the input they received and praised the competence and passion with which Fr. Jacinto Nunez spoke about the Apostle of the Gentiles.

The conference was also enriched by an exhibit of books and other material on St. Paul, which was run by our sisters and some of their lay collaborators.
